It's funny you mention that, at least 4 or 5 times a day, my 6 year old son talks about how he's going to grow up and build a flying car. He insists it's going to be built out of wood. Go figure.

The answer is simple...YES! Below is a link to an article about an American student who free'd himself, after being arrested in another country, simply by using Twitter.

Jen-I'm an ultimate niche company...I have perhaps 40 customers in Idaho and no more than 50 nationwide. For such a small "universe" of customers who access my website regularly (I can even route them through a blog posting to FTP their images), the "social" aspect is invaluable! You bet we're going to "use this" (re social media)...at least at my level.

And incidentally, before anyone dismisses my experience, my customers include folks like Disney, NFL Films, the PGA, etc. They are people, and they like working "sociably."

Forgive my dissent. Perhaps it's because I'm involved in such a small niche, but I'm harvesting some direct benefits of New Media...long and roundabout story why (at least, according to my opinion).

I'm not just waiting for the FCC and various manufacturers to adopt the latest generations of Flash/Flash Lite (API products), picking up BREW and so on. We're full speed ahead and our customers are anxious for it, so they're adopting us now in anticipation.

[...] Corporate blogging rules: when it comes to setting rules about corporate blogs, I like this way of seeing things 1. Don’t blog about something you are privy to (upcoming products, organizaional structure changes - good or bad) 2. Don’t talk about other companies unless you have permission to do so & when/if you do, those facts are correct. 3. Be courtious & Professional: if you wouldn’t say it to their face, don’t say it at all. 4. If you think you will get fired for saying it, you probably will. [...]

MPC doesn't really register outside of Idaho except maybe in government circles (which may be all it needs since the company is pretty much focused on that space anyways). From the very beginning, its seems the company has struggled with its identity and projecting its brand - Edge, MEI, Micron Electronics, MPC, MPCCorp...none of these really jump out to let me know what the company does? I think it has always been an issue with the company and still is in some respects.

Thanks Jim for the comment.
What is great about New Media is that "partner level" is achieved quicker (and can be just as valuable) than it ever has been before due to the access of the connections...ie: you can talk/network 24/7, unlike before it was at real life gatherings where you might or might not get that 1:1 time w/certain partner level peers.
Hope all is well!
